The Research Computing Service (RCS) at the University of Cambridge has an exciting opportunity for an excellent candidate to join the Research Computing User Services team as HPC System Administrator. RCS provides one of the largest High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters in the UK, University-wide data storage, virtualization, Hadoop and other services to researchers from within Cambridge, from other UK Universities and from industry. The successful applicant will join a growing team responsible for supporting, developing and maintaining these UK-leading services to facilitate research across a wide range of disciplines. As a member of RCS you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to the design and delivery of new services and other cutting edge projects.
RCS runs one of the UK’s largest academic supercomputers, the Cambridge Service for Data-Driven Discovery (CSD3), a multimillion pound system comprised of more than 24 thousand Intel Skylake cores, over 300 Intel Xeon Phi manycore nodes and 360 Nvidia P100 GPUs. CSD3 provides petascale research computing across the UK, through STFC DiRAC and EPSRC Tier2, to some of the largest UK science projects such as the Square Kilometre Array and the 10,000 genome project, and also to industry.
The successful candidate will have skills in Linux system administration and scripting. Our user base includes academic and industrial users and you must have the ability to deal with a varied level of user experience and have good communication skills. Experience of HPC would be advantageous; the motivation and enthusiasm to learn new skills and new technologies are essential.
If you have Linux system administration experience but not in HPC, but would be willing to learn, then please do apply.
Secondments will also be considered.
