Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Philosophy (Anglo-American) in the Department of Philosophy.

Philosophy is a rapidly developing discipline in the College that now offers a full range of undergraduate and MA programmes and has an established research student culture. The development of Philosophy at Royal Holloway began in 2007 with the establishment of a series of undergraduate minor degrees, followed in 2010 by joint honours degrees. 2013 saw the introduction of a Single Honours Philosophy degree. It has been prioritised for ‘growth’, and this new appointment will increase the group to seven permanent members of staff. The successful applicant will contribute to consolidating and expanding our teaching profile, and to setting the research agenda for our first REF submission in 2020. The essential qualification for this role is PhD in a relevant subject. 

We are a strongly pluralistic department, operating across the divide between Anglo-American ‘analytic’ and European/Continental traditions in contemporary philosophy, with additional expertise in the history of philosophy (including ancient philosophy and modern and contemporary political thought) and in philosophy’s relationship to literature and the practicing arts. We also have interdisciplinary connections with academics in Classics, Drama, English, History, and Politics and International Relations. 

We are seeking to appoint a lecturer in any area of Anglo-American philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to both our undergraduate programme, and our MA in philosophy. They will show the potential to be an outstanding researcher. They will also be a committed and engaged teacher of philosophy, keen to explore innovative pedagogical practice in the field.
